What LED Signs Can Do To Your Electric Bill

Posted on by admin

We have recently added an informational article on Kerleysigns.com that discusses LED lights and their low power usage compared to other types of lighting, such as neon and incandescent bulbs.

LEDs are not a new technology, but it is one that has seen continuous improvements in terms of efficiency and longevity, gaining applications along the way. Modern LED signs have a lifespan of up to 10 years of continuous use before their elements begin to burn out, and the individual light-emitting diodes can last for up to 20 years, offering unparalleled longevity.

For a long time, the use of LEDs was constrained by the fact that they were available in a narrow palette of colors, mostly green, red and orange. However, between the mid-90s and mid-2000s, blue and white LEDs were developed, allowing their use in the role of lighting as well as indicators and color elements. Today, LED flashlights are extremely popular, thanks to their brightness and low power use.

These days, when energy costs are up and efficiency is king, outdoor LED signs and lighting has become a way for business owners to save large amounts of money on electricity; while up to 80% of the energy coursing through an incandescent bulb is wasted as heat, LEDs generate barely any heat at all, which allows them to operate at a mere one-fifth of the power that filament bulbs use.
